CENTER FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGES
The Center for Foreign Languages, established in 2000, is under Mekong University's direct control. The center offers courses of English, French, Chinese, Japanese at the 3 levels A, B, and C and is authorized to grant certificates by the Ministry of Education and Training.
1. GENERAL OPERATIONS
The center’s functions are to train and foster foreign languages (English and French) to the university staff that need to improve their knowledge of language to support their teaching and do scientific research.
In addition, it offers foreign language courses to students to meet the increasing demands of rich and diverse learners as well as expand the bilateral cooperation with centers and universities in HCMC and international organizations so as to promote the foreign language teaching and learning movement.
2. PRINCIPAL AND REGULAR ACTIVITIES
The center frequently offers courses of English and French at the basic to advanced levels. After the courses, the center holds examinations which reward the National Foreign Language Certificate Levels A, B, C to successful test takers.
To meet the needs of English used in different areas of expertise, the center organizes special classes such as Business English, English for Tourism, English for Conversation, and Grammar classes at the elementary to advanced levels. Students are able to register a TOEFL preparation course if they desire to take the exams for post-graduate program and study abroad.
Classes are open in the evenings during the week, and learners can select the appropriate classes for themselves.

The center, from its first operation to the present, continuously develops with the help of lecturers of Mekong University and visiting lecturers from other universities and centers. At first, there were only 10 teachers signing teaching contracts in the center, but now, the number of teaching staff increases up to over 40 who have regularly signed teaching contracts at the center.
The center has tried to invest in facilities to meet the needs of teaching and doing research for officers, lecturers and learners. Currently, the center’s main office is located at Mekong University (National Highway 1A - Phu Quoi Commune - Long Ho District- Vinh Long Province)
The center has been permitted to use classrooms with about 40 learners each. Among them, there are 8 rooms equipped with projectors. Teachers can also teach foreign languages by using video and other audio-visual teaching aids. In addition, the center is equipped with flat screen color TV, CD players, VCD, DVD…to serve the teaching, learning of foreign languages and the scientific research.
